Introduction

The concept of clustering UiTM’s faculties into 3 main field of studies was established in line with the restructuring of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in 2004. In the midst of fast-changing development in the local and international education arena, higher expectations from the university stakeholders were received and need to be met. The sacred role of promoting nation’s socio-economic development bestowed upon UiTM come along with greater challenges of promoting academic excellence and professional training. UiTM must strive to be the leader in promoting educational dynamism with broad spectrum and innovative product in the industry. Thus, the concept of clustering the faculties according to major study fields was embraced to enhance academic innovation in terms of programs offered as well as research and development.

Terms of Reference

As a university that aspires to be a world class university, UiTM realizes that the practice of academics assimilation and the multidisciplinary concept are crucial in the advancement of innovative programs and R&D. The NeST hence becomes relevant as part of the university initiative to enhance the sharing-for-excellence concept. With that in mind, the Nexus of Science and Technology works within the following term of reference: 

1.         Strengthen the concept of sharing of knowledge, research, expertise and resources among faculties
2.         Generate interdisciplinary / multidisciplinary / major-minor / double-major programmes among faculties
3.         Enhance university-wide courses
4.         Streamline entry requirements, academic evaluation system and examination
5.         Promote innovation in academic programmes
6.         Explore the potential of setting up centres of excellence
7.         Drive the development of faculties and avoid overlapping courses and programmes
8.         Provide recommendations for the improvement of faculties under the respective Colleges
